BODYDIARIES

Since 2019 Sianna and Saar have been working together on various creative projects. Their journey of shared experiences, personal challenges, and creative development has deepened their friendship and artistic relationship. Collectively there’s been a career altering fracture, nuances of pregnancy, multiple surgeries, rehabs, recoveries and introspection. The intertwining of their personal and professional lives and their willingness to share it with one another led them to investigate the transformation and reformation of the human (but also circus) body. Thus leading them to create a new work they call BodyDiaries.

For many circus artists, our career and dedication to our artistic practice is connected to our identity. When circumstances prevent us from fully engaging in or embodying our practice, it can profoundly impact our sense of self. Whether it's due to a severe injury,  pregnancy or mental health, such situations often lead to a sense of isolation from our circus community. Prompting introspection about our purpose and identity. The struggle to return to our former physical selves or discover a redefined body becomes a prevalent concern for the individual.

BodyDiaries will create a space for reflection, listening and connection. We want to normalize an unclear physical trajectory within an environment often reliant on physicality. To acknowledge the value, wisdom and process of change in (circus) bodies. To create an environment where individual stories become a collective voice for growth and development in circus.

PLAY SPACE

A CIRCUS EXPERIENCE USING AN INTERACTIVE ROPE INSTALLATION

A body entangled in ropes.
Limbs suspended in the air.
Weightlessness is created
by simultaneously pushing and pulling.
Reaching will pull you back,
while letting go might move you forwards.
We move together, body and ropes.
One reaching to the other.
What will be your answer?

When is something circus? Circus plays with the relationship between body, object and space. I hereby invite you to experience circus in a new way. In this rope installation you get the chance to rediscover and explore your playfulness and let it change your perspective. To interact with the ropes with all your senses. Through play you can find unexpected ways to relate to an object and see potential you would never have imagined. Listen to what the ropes have to tell you and react to that, as a dialogue without words.

RIGGERS

RIGGERS stands for “React, Invent, Get together for a Goal: Expertise in Rigging Services”. It is a 2-year project funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Commission. It aims at enhancing the quality of safety measures in Circus schools, and at fostering the creation of an international community of professionals eager to exchange skills, advice and expertise for actual and future generations.

CIRCUS DAYS AND NIGHTS

Saar designed a rope installation for the new circus opera Circus Days and Nights produced by Cirkus Cirkör and Malmö Opera with music by Philip Glass. She worked closely with the scenographer, Magdalena Åberg, and the director, Tilde Björfors, to design the rig for this elaborate production. She will tour with this production around the world as a rigger.

STRINGS ON STRINGS

To finish her study in Narrative Design, Saar created a half hour piece together with composer and pianist Hara Alonzo. They created a rope installation where the movement was sonified and the sound visualised. Saar’s movement in the rope wall created movement in strings that touched piano strings and which in turn created sound. The sound was captured and Zahra Zavarah created a projection in Touchdesigner that directly reacted to the live sound.

MINNEN OCH TRÅD

THREADS OF MEMORY

A performance walk through the old weaving factory in Rydal, Sweden. Combining circus, music and theatre. Saar built a rope installation with elements of the weaving factory like two big weaving looms and the cogs of the weaving machines.

HAND IN HAND

A dancer and a circus artist meet. Together they try to dance in the air and float over the floor, but that is not always easy. Can they trust each other? In passing they discover new possibilities. Sometimes alone, often together; supporting, leaning on and hanging off each other. Falling and continuing. A vulnerable human display of being together.

LADYLIKE

Graduation act from ACaPA in Triple Cloudswing.

On stage I am someone else than in my normal life, but am I pretending or is it just an other part of me. While performing I am elegant and charming, but sometimes I would like to be something else.
